SCICSG Releases New Amateur Radio Population Maps for Indiana

Members of SCICSG have worked with data from US Census Bureau and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) data.
The maps include statewide maps showing:

  • Hams per capita for each county
  • Hams per square mile for each county

Also available are maps for each individual county, showing the distribution of licensed amateur radio operators within the county. SCICSG feels that this data could be valuable to amateur radio clubs and other organizations who are active within these counties and adjacent counties, when recruiting potential new amateur radio operators.

SCICSG Field Day 2017

SCICSG will once again be participating in Amateur Radio Field Day on Saturday and Sunday, June 24 and 25, 2017.

This year’s event will take place on the grounds of our new sponsor, THE ROCK, the church at the corner of Rocky Ford Road and Taylor Road in Columbus, Indiana.

Beginning at 09:00 on Saturday, members will setup temporary ham radio stations to showcase the science and skill of Amateur Radio and its usefulness during emergency situations requiring communications support.

On-air operation will commence at 14:00 (2:00 pm) and continue throughout the night, concluding at 14:00 (2:00 pm) on Sunday.

One of the goals will be to contact as many other Amateur stations as possible throughout North America during this 24 hour period.

A Special station will be setup for the Public, with the guidance of a licensed operator, to get hands-on experience and actually get on the air!

For those wishing to earn their amateur radio license, or upgrade an existing license, SCICSG will also be offering free license testing throughout the event. Applicants should bring a valid government-issued ID and a copy of any existing amateur radio license.
